Grief, loss and wellness supports for frontline workers, community peer supporters and community-facing management were launched in Spring 2021. Breakaway recognizes the many definitions of wellness we hold, and therefore includes practitioners from a wide variety of backgrounds and modalities.

*Please Note: Intake for 1-1 support is paused as of April 25th 2022.

The uptake and interest in the program exceeded what we anticipated and were funded for. At this time we are pausing intakes for 1:1 service (and not holding a waitlist) while we assess our capacity. We want to ensure we can meet the commitment we’ve made to all 200 individual program participants before resuming 1:1 intakes. Friday evening sessions continue to offer group-based wellness supports.

If you’d like to receive an update if and when we reopen intake for 1-1 support, please subscribe to our mailing list.

Free 1-1 support is currently available for frontline workers and community members who completed intakes between program launch in January 2021 – April 2022, who provide supports to communities that use drugs in so-called “Toronto”. Individuals are provided with 8 free sessions with the practitioner of their choice, and can be supported in accessing additional free sessions.

Modalities Provided:

  • Acupuncture

  • Massage

  • Psychotherapy

  • Spiritual Support

  • Sound Therapy

  • Grief & Loss Counselling

Group-Based Wellness Supports

Wellness nights for frontline workers and community responders continue to be held once a month for Fall and Winter 2022/2023. If you’d like to receive information about upcoming group/drop in wellness spaces for workers and community supporters (both online and in person), please check our Instagram @glow.initiative, or email Morgan Garnett at [email protected]

Wellness nights include body-based care, such as acupuncture, drum circles and sound baths, as well as a meal and as-needed counselling support.
